Scam warning
Most people on YADate are here to meet someone. Scammers are here for your money or your personal data. Here is how to recognise them — and what to do.
Typical stories
- Money for a ticket or a visa: after weeks of warm messages, suddenly they need money to come and meet you.
- An emergency: an illness, an accident, an arrest or a blocked bank card — and only you can help.
- An investment tip: they made money with crypto or trading and want to “help” you do the same.
- A parcel or a gift: a valuable package is stuck at customs and you only need to pay the fee.
- A fake payment: they send you money or a cheque and ask you to send part of it back.
Warning signs
- They want to move to WhatsApp, Telegram or email right away.
- The profile looks too perfect: model-like photos, few details, a job far away (army, oil rig, doctor on a mission).
- They declare love very quickly but always have a reason not to video-call or meet.
- Messages feel copy-pasted or do not answer your questions.
- Sooner or later the story ends with money, gift cards, crypto or your documents.
Protect yourself
- Never send money, gift cards or crypto to someone you have not met — whatever the story.
- Do not share your address, documents, bank details or verification codes.
- Check their photos with a reverse image search: stolen photos are the most common sign.
- Keep talking on YADate until you are sure: our moderation cannot help in other messengers.
- Have a video call before you meet, and meet in a busy public place.
